Director Kiyoka "Kex" Rhodes begins research for the Desolate Dreams educational initiative with a visit to Howard University's Black Press Archives in Founders Library. Examining original 1940s newspaper clippings written by African American journalists, Kiyoka is uncovering firsthand accounts and perspectives on World War II and the forced incarceration of Japanese Americans.
This visit is the first of many planned research sessions that will help shape the educational initiative and bring this overlooked history to new audiences.
